DOGBERRY: Truly, I would not hang a dog by my will, much more a man who hath any honesty in him.
But what does it all mean?!
So animals were actually hanged or penalized for poor behavior...(yikes)... and instead of saying “much more” Dogberry means “much less.” My read of it is that dogberry is just trying to convey that he ‘wouldn’t hurt a fly let alone a man.’
